The Art Of Presidenting

I am inclined to think that Hillary Clinton will be the next President of the United States (POTUS). It’s not necessarily what I want to happen, but I follow politics pretty closely and am a realist. If her reputation remains as is and does not get too tarnished by the Benghazi debacle, there is no Republican that can beat her. Again, that is just my opinion. I honestly think that if she gets into office, she will have her two terms which effectively leaves the Republicans out of power until 2024. I’ve taken some time to look back at presidential history for the past 116 years. I was going to go back further, but I got bored. Basically I am sticking to 1900 to the present.

During this time period there have only been two instances of one party dominance that lasted more than 12 years.

William McKinley, Teddy Roosevelt, and William Taft (Republicans) went for 16 years, from 1897 – 1913.

FDR and Truman (Democrats) went for 20 years, from 1933 – 1953. We all know that FDR would have done a full 16 years by himself had he not died in office.

Which brings me to a small point: McKinley also died in office. So it is safe to say that the only two times since 1897 that one party has dominated for more than 12 years was when there was a death in office.

Now if we eliminate those two instances from history and look at party dominance for 12 years in a row since 1897, it has only occurred two times and they were both periods of Republican dominance. Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover… and Reagan and H.W. Bush.

Harding died in office which means one out of the two periods of 12 year dominance by one party since 1897 was marred by a death in office.

Of the four instances since 1897 of party dominance lasting for more than 8 years, only the FDR-Truman 20 year era ended with a president serving two terms. The three instances of 12 or 16 year dominance have ended with a president serving only one term.

This all makes me rethink my assumption that the Democrats will dominate until 2024, and sorry Hillary… I am starting to think that if you get elected, you will only serve one term. We can agree that history repeats itself so given the last hundred years of presidential history, the only way the Democrats can go beyond 12 years of dominance is if someone dies in office. We don’t want that to happen.

The lengths I have to go to in order to mind fuck myself.
